This short, 2” piece of rebar was annealed, filed to form the stamp, then hardened and tempered with fire.
A combination of commercially made stamps, stamps handmade by Lyndon Tsosie and The House of Stamps; and stamps hand made by me!
My awesome teacher Tim McCreight, helped me make this one!
The Art of Stamping is beautifully presented by Matthieu Cheminée (ed. by Tim McCreight) with tremendous information by the world’s best makers of stamping tools and designs.
Stamps are also used to identify the metal type and purity. For example: .925 for Sterling Silver vs .999 for Fine Silver, or 14K gold, vs 22K gold. Maker’s marks are used to identify the jeweler or metal smith.
